Privacy policy

Persa is an online storefront for moving and yard sales, based in Manitoba, Canada. Sellers list items, buyers make offers, and buyers pick items up from the seller in person. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What we collect

If you buy

Your email address. You sign in with a link we email you, and we use it to tell you about your offers.
A display name, if you choose one.
The offers you make and the messages you exchange with sellers about their items.

If you sell

Your name and email address, which you use to sign in.
If you add a passkey, its public key and the kind of device it's on (for example "iPhone"). Your fingerprint or face never leaves your device.
Your store name and your pickup address and notes.
Your listings: photos, titles, descriptions and prices. We remove location data (GPS) from photos before they are uploaded.

From everyone

Basic sign-in records: when you signed in, your IP address and your browser type. We use these to keep accounts secure.
Anonymous page-view counts for storefronts, which do not identify you.
Reports you send about a listing or a buyer, with your account, so we can follow up. The person you report is not told who reported them.

We do not collect payment information. Payment happens in person, between buyer and seller.

How we use it

To sign you in and keep your account secure.
To pass offers and messages between buyers and sellers.
To tell you what is happening with your offers and listings, by email.
To prevent abuse, such as spam offers or harassment, and to act on reports.

Pickup addresses are protected. A seller's pickup address is shown only to a buyer whose offer that seller has accepted, and only while that pickup hold is active.

Sellers see the name and email address of a buyer whose offer they accept, so they can arrange pickup. Sellers never see other sellers' buyers. Sale prices and buyer identities are never shown publicly.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Emails we send

We only email you about your own use of Persa:

sign-in links;
updates on your offers: accepted, declined, or placed on a waitlist;
a reminder before a pickup hold expires;
a notice when someone replies to you, with a link rather than the message itself; and
for sellers, new offers and messages, and reminders about listings that are ending.

We do not send marketing email. How often you hear from us depends on your offers, listings and conversations. Persa does not send text messages at the moment; if that changes, this policy will say so first.

We use a small number of service providers to run Persa. They process information only on our instructions and only to provide their service:

Cloudflare: hosting, security, and photo storage.
Neon: database hosting.
Resend: sending email.

These providers may store and process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Offers and messages are deleted 90 days after the item they relate to is sold or removed.
Buyer accounts are deleted after one year without activity. So is an account that signed in but was never used to make an offer or send a message.
Sign-in codes and links are deleted once they expire, and so is the record of a signed-in device (its IP address and browser) when its session ends.
Listings end after 14 days unless the seller refreshes them. A listing that ends is deleted, with its photos, 14 days later. Photos of a sold item are deleted 14 days after the sale, and photos of a removed listing right away. No photo is kept longer than 30 days after it was uploaded or last refreshed.
Seller accounts are kept while the store is active, and deleted on request.
Records of emails we sent (not their contents) are kept for our cost and billing records.

Cookies

We use one cookie, which keeps you signed in. It holds a random identifier, not your email address. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
correct information that is wrong; or
delete your account and the information attached to it.

If you buy, you can also delete your account yourself from the Account page. Any item held for you is released, and your offers and messages are deleted.

You can also withdraw your consent at any time, though some features, such as signing in or making offers, will then stop working. We will respond within 30 days.
